June 2009 Column

With the summer holidays looming, it appears everyone is starting to think about their breaks away. The holiday spirit is definitely amongst us as more customers I meet are deciding what to pack for their hols. This month I have dedicated the column to your holiday wardrobe. I am providing a capsule collection that will give you a condensed selection that is perfect for any situation but does not cost you more for excess luggage!

Holiday Must Haves

Its time to get your bikini on! This can often be a daunting act so getting the correct swimwear is essential. Often fashion will dictate certain styles, unless you feel comfortable in the shapes then always opt for a style that suits you and you feel good in.

Lipsy bikini

Black is the safest colour as it will look good at the start of your holiday against pale skin right through to when you are tanned. It can also be more flattering as is darker and can hide lumps and bumps. If you are more adventurous on holiday (we tend to be) then opt for a colour. A bright colour will look great on a tanned body so will probably be worn towards the end.

New look bikini

This is a great alternative to black. Animal print is timeless and looks sophisticated on. Team the top with black bottoms also for a twist.

With the swimwear sorted the other necessity is your holiday bag. I love my handbag but would not take on holiday as its slightly impractical and for fear of ruining it with sun cream! Instead I always opt for an over the shoulder style.

Storm bag

This bag is great! It’s easy to wear over the shoulder and the size allows you to keep all your travel documents safe whilst looking good too. Often you are walking around more so having a comfortable bag makes it easier.

Finally a summer dress is a definite on holiday. Invest in a cotton dress as it will keep you cool and allows you to wear it both day and night.

Emily and finn dress

This dress is perfect, being cotton it can be worn over a bikini by the pool or teamed with some wedges for a night out.

The Essential Selection

If you’re anything like me and have been stung for excess luggage, then careful planning of your holiday wardrobe is well worth doing! The key is to pack a few essential pieces that can be worn several times in many ways.

MaxC dress

This floaty tunic can be a staple part of your holiday wardrobe. It can be worn as a short dress or worn over leggings or linen trousers. The colours in the tunic allow it to be worn with black or white for a few alternative looks.

Vila Dress

Keeping cool is essential on holiday and airy and floaty pieces will do this. A floaty dress is great for wearing at any time. This dress allows flip-flops or heels to be worn and the halter neck style is great for showing off the tan.

Candy stripe dress

Although we all want to feel cool and comfortable there must always be a killer outfit to wear on a big night out. This dress is of the moment. Being a body con style it can hold you in all the right places and colours will look great against a tan.

Striped top

Finally a little casual top must be packed. This is a winner as its strappy and cool and can be worn on its own, with black shorts or over trousers. Happy Packing!

Question and Answer

I have seen lots of nautical styles in the shops and would like to buy a dress, what do you suggest?

Nautical is a big theme this year. The most popular colours used are contrasting reds, navy and blacks. The nautical theme tends to be worn causally but styled in the right way this theme can be worn at night also. It’s a common misconception that stripes going horizontally can make you look bigger. Large thick stripes will extenuate your shape but if you stick to thin stripes this will complement your figure hiding any lumps too. Gold accessories look great with nautical pieces. I would stick to navy or black and white, as this tends to be timeless and can be worn day or night.

This Diva dress is a great style, the neckline looks good on the bust and being jersey can be worn on its own or teamed with leggings.
